1) First go to the start menu either by pressing the windows key located
in between your ctrl & alt keys or by clicking in the bottom right-hand
corner of your screen.

2) Then click on "Control Panel"


At this point if your screen doesn't look like mine click on "Switch to Category View" under
Control Panel located in the top right.

3) Click on "Performance and Maintenance"


4) Click on "Rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster"


5) Select your hard drive or partition you would like to defrag

6) Click on "Defagement"

Please note like any computer application this is just one of many ways to locate the defragmenter that comes with Windows XP.

It is best not to run other programs and save files while computer is defraging. Usually a good thing to do before you leave your computer for a little while.
